How to Migrate from Redstor to WOW Backup: A Step-by-Step Xero Migration Guide

With Redstor's CyberSentriq platform retiring its Xero backup service, securing an alternative is critical. Redstor halted new sales on May 28, 2026, and end of support arrived in August 2026. With the complete end-of-life set for October 2026, it is imperative to move your data now.

Before beginning your transition to WOW Backup & Restore, ensure you have the following in place:

• Xero Administrator Access: You will need Standard or Adviser user permissions with the ability to connect third-party apps.
• Redstor CyberSentriq Access: Ensure you have your login credentials to initiate the data egress.
• Migration Timeline: Plan your migration before the October 2026 shutdown. Redstor is offering free data egress before this date.
• Storage Space: While WOW performs fresh backups directly from Xero, you will need a secure location to store your historical Redstor archive.

Step 1: Export Your Backup Data from Redstor

WOW Backup creates a completely fresh, comprehensive backup directly from Xero. However, it is highly recommended to export your historical archive from Redstor for your records. Take advantage of their free data egress before the shutdown.

1. Log into your Redstor CyberSentriq console.
2. Navigate to your Xero backup sets.
3. Select the option to perform a full export or data egress.
4. Follow the on-screen prompts to download your data archive.
5. Store this downloaded archive securely according to your company's data retention policies.

This archive serves as a safety net, containing your historical snapshots prior to your migration.

Step 2: Sign Up for WOW Backup & Restore

Once you have secured your legacy data, the next step is establishing your new backup environment.

1. Visit the WOW Backup & Restore pricing page.
2. Review our transparent pricing tiers designed for individual businesses and accounting firms.
3. Select the plan that best fits your needs. We recommend starting with our free trial to experience the platform firsthand.
4. Complete the registration process to create your WOW administrator account.

Step 3: Connect Your Xero Organisation via OAuth

WOW Backup integrates seamlessly through the Xero App Store, allowing for a secure, passwordless connection. This step takes less than 60 seconds.

1. Log into your new WOW Backup & Restore dashboard.
2. Click on "Add Organisation" or "Connect to Xero".
3. You will be securely redirected to Xero's login page (if not already logged in).
4. Authorise WOW Backup to access your Xero data. We use standard OAuth protocols, meaning we never see or store your Xero passwords.
5. Once authorised, you will be redirected back to the WOW dashboard.

Step 4: Verify Your First Backup

The initial backup may take some time depending on the size of your Xero organisation. Once complete, it's crucial to verify the integrity of the data.

Navigate to your WOW dashboard and review the backup summary. Check the following key areas to ensure a complete snapshot:

• Contacts: Are all customer and supplier records present?
• Invoices & Bills: Verify that recent and historical transactions are captured.
• Chart of Accounts: Ensure your complete financial structure is intact.
• Attachments: WOW preserves attachments, tracking categories, tax mappings, and relational links. Spot-check a few transactions with attachments to confirm.

Step 5: Set Up Scheduled Daily Snapshots

To guarantee continuous protection, ensure your automated schedule is active.

1. In the WOW dashboard, go to "Backup Settings".
2. Confirm that daily automated backups are enabled.
3. Choose your preferred backup time (we recommend outside of your core business hours).

Your data is now protected by daily automated backups, stored using WORM (Write Once, Read Many) protected immutable storage, safeguarding against ransomware and accidental deletions.

Step 6: Test a Restore (Optional but Recommended)

A backup is only as good as its restore. We strongly recommend testing the restore functionality.

1. In Xero, set up a temporary "sandbox" or demo organisation.
2. Within the WOW dashboard, select your primary Xero backup.
3. Choose the "Restore" option and select your temporary sandbox organisation as the destination.
4. Initiate a partial restore (e.g., just contacts or a specific date range) to verify the process.

For MSPs: Bulk-Connecting Multiple Xero Orgs

If you are a Managed Service Provider (MSP) or an accounting firm managing multiple client files, connecting them individually is inefficient.

WOW Backup offers bulk-connection tools. From your partner dashboard, you can generate a single authorisation link. You can either use this link to authorise multiple organisations yourself (if you have the requisite Xero permissions for all of them) or send it to your clients for them to authorise individually.
